Union Minister Shri Ajay Kumar Mishra, while answering a question on online fraud in the Lok Sabha, had said that in 2023, a total of 11.28 lakh cases of cyber fraud were reported in the country, in which the total looted amount was Rs 7488.6 crore. Out of these, the highest number of cyber fraud cases have been registered from Uttar Pradesh.

AC Repair Scam: There are many frauds in the name of AC in summer. It is possible that you have searched online for service or repair of your AC. Scammers take advantage of this. Many times they ask you for OTP for registration of servicing. Now because you had already entered your number online, you do not even suspect. If you want to avoid this, then while entering your details, definitely check whether the website looks different or not, or does not look fake or there is a problem with the domain name, so avoid clicking on unknown websites and links.

Holiday Tickets Scam: In this scam, scammers talk about giving you many good offers for traveling in summer vacation, such as free stay, free tickets, free food etc. and scammers say that grab this offer quickly, otherwise it will be snatched away. They say that for this offer you just have to pay a small amount and then you will be sent a QR code after which your account can be emptied. If you want to avoid this scam, then think well yourself why someone would give you free holiday vacations. Also, check the social media handles and websites offering cheap travel packages that come on social media or through mail.

Electricity Bill Scam: If you have been sent a text or email claiming that you have electricity dues, do not respond to such messages and if there is a link in it, do not click on it either. This may be a scam. If you want to avoid such scams, call your electricity provider and confirm whether this mail has come, has this mail been sent by you? If you have paid your electricity bill, they will not send such a mail and if they have not sent it, then you have already been saved from the scam.
